Samsung Electronics Xian X2 Utility Project

Samsung Electronics X2 Project located in the Gaoxin Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China was aimed at constructing a semiconductor plant that produces 250,000 wafers per month to accommodate more than 10% of the global NAND flash memory production. This plant is the only overseas memory semiconductor plant operated by Samsung Electronics. As extra short lead-time process management was required due to the special characteristics of the semiconductor industry, we applied the prefab construction method, which minimizes the work at the site and interference between disciplines, from the structural phase and incrementally applied it to all disciplines. We were able to enhance project productivity by applying the pre-cast truss wall (PTW) method of assembling pre-fabricated concrete walls and modularizing the cooling tower, which is a large steel structure, piping equipment, and electrical and fire protection work. Such advanced project execution using new technology and construction method not only improved our own reputation but also the corporate image of the client in China.
